Geocaching news

I did a little bit of geocaching today with my 7 year old son. He’s really gotten into the idea of a high-tech treasure hunt and is really good at spotting the caches which my old eyes see as part of the scenary. I let him decide which item we take and which item we leave while I sign the logbook. The best one we did today was a 3 part multicache where the 1st cache contains the coordinates to the 2nd part, and the 2nd part contains the coordinates to the third and final cache.

We started geocaching in November and have already racked up almost 30 finds. Here’s some of our statistics and our favorite finds:

In other geocaching news, I received my very own Unite for Diabetes travel bug. The idea is that Groundspeak is giving away 20,000 bugs until they last. Each bug is assigned a specific city as a goal and the travel bug is trying to get to it’s goal city by hopping geocache to geocache. Once it reaches it’s goal, then it can just circulate in that city’s caches raising awareness for Diabetes and support for a UN resolution on Diabetes.

“Our” travel bug has a goal to get to Anqiu, China. You can track it’s progress on the geocaching.com site along with me. It will hopefully pick up some interesting stories and photos along the way, including mine.
